“We put our confidence in Elyes to play as an outside hitter instead of his original position as a center block but today he accept this challenge and he played very well. We had the libero and Malek Chekir in their best performance today. They were the best to aid Elyes in his job.”

Tunisia captain Ousama Mrika:

“We played very well today. All my teammates were better in reception and did their best. As a team they played a great match and we won.”

USA coach Peter Hanson:

“Congratulations to Tunisia. They played a wonderful match. USA was very inconsistent today. Our passes were not very good. In the third, we found some rhythm but we just couldn’t sustain it. Over time, Tunisia was the better team. Our blocks were not consistent because of the young age of the players. They are not experienced enough. We have many players from different universities and different systems, the players came from. So we try to put USA system and sometimes it is difficult for them with limited training time. For the next match against Canada, we need to try to play in our way and get some momentum. We know we put ourselves in a tough position to play with the teams in pool D and hopefully we can improve ourselves for tomorrow. We have nothing to lose now, we will try as hard as we can.”

USA team captain Matthew West:

“Tunisia played well, we didn’t, that’s pretty much what happened. We did best of ourselves. They just played better than us so they won. I think the reception was not in our standards, it was not best. but they played very well we didn’t play the way we wanted. They did great, congratulations”
