Venezuela, Brazil, Peru get wins at South American Champs

Ica , Peru, September 20, 2013 - Brazil and Peru added three wins while Venezuela achieved their first victory, thus are defining the positions of the six countries participating in the third day of the South American XXX Ica. The competition provides a quota for the World category next year and a ticket to the 2013 FIVB Volleyball World Champions Cup in Japan . But the CSV has one more quota for Italy , which will be played in Argentina between the second, third, fourth and fifth place in the tournament made up of the continent.

Venezuela 3, Chile 0

Venezuela scored their first win by defeating Chile 3-0 ( 25-11, 25-20, 25-22) in one hour and 14 minus, to achieve fifth place in the South American XXX, and allowing them to move on to the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Cup qualifiers in Argentina , where the four countries in South America (besides the champion) will compete for the second vacancy of the 2014 World Cup in Italy .

Maria Jose Peréz with 19 points was the top scorer of Venezuela, and Captain Chris Vhorpahl Chile had 12.

Venezuela railed hard in the first set and managed to keep the match by a comfortable advantage characterized by effective attack by Venezuela and forward error string, which proved difficult for Chile to defend.

In the second set, Hugo Jauregui led fewer mistakes and a stubborn defense did not give up any ball, but Venezuela was higher in attack and that was two sets up.

The story concluded after a hard struggle in the third set. The Chilean side tried to force a bigger set. Led by Sergio Rivero, they needed to close the game and have almost pocketed the ticket to global pre-qualifiers, but after an arduous struggle, Venezuela won its first victory and secured three points in the tournament.

"Basically we got to this tournament as preparation for World Pre," said Maria Jose Perez. "We met recently and I think this championship is done in order that was to finish in the top five and classify."

Brazil 3, Argentina 0

Brazil got their third win easily defeating Argentina 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-7) in just over an hour, and is getting closer to achieving their 18th  American title, which will ensure direct classification 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championship 2014 - Italy next year and their presence in the FIVB Grand Champions Cup in October.

The top scorer for Brazil was Fabiana Claudino with 13 points, while with seven goals Lucia Fresco was the most prominent in the Argentine team.

The game started evenly, with a Brazil stronger and a livelier team than Argentina. As the game progressed, receiving errors cost Argentina dearly, which allowed the Brazilian overtake the lead.

A monologue by Brazil broke in the second set. The Argentineans disappeared leaving the party led by Ze Roberto partial win by a wide margin , accurate reflection of what was happening in the game.

In the third set, the Brazilians were a steamroller, and without hesitation with their best offensive weapon a formidable level closed a party that keeps unbeaten in the championship.

"The serving and blocking worked very well in the match and were the key to victory today," Fabiana Claudinho. "We were very focused on the game." 

"We will work all that is Peru , is the team that matters now," said Emilce Sosa, Argentina's captain. "We know very well and play him visit is always very difficult, but we we will make a good game. It would be important to repeat the silver medal we got in 2011. We hope to do it again."

Peru 3, Colombia 2

Peru remained unbeaten ruffled a packed Coliseum in Ica sextet by beating Colombia 3-2 (16-25, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, 15-13) in and an exciting and vibrant two-hour-fourteen-minute game. After being two sets down and have the score in the fourth quarter, Peru was awarded a victory that assured the podium.

Madelyne Montaño with 34 points was the highest scorer of the match , and maintains its position as "Best Score" tournament . On the side of Peru, Karla Ortiz scored 26.

This time the game went faster as Peru, which dominated throughout the Championship, went unnoticed; in part because the lock system led by Mauro Marasciulo was tenacious annulling major offensive weapons of Peru.

The attitude of the local was another in the second round. They needed to give joy to their audience, and they fought point-to-point in a pulsating match in front of 7,000 people. However, the Colombians attacked in recent points and applied a firm forward attack .

Peru went strong in the third set, then focused all its offensive to demolish a fragile Colombian defense, in front of a chanting crowd saying, "Yes We Can."

With a set won, the game changed completely. Directed by Hong, the team corrected the mistakes of last September and supported by a blockade that forced responses gave it all set in a tie-break.

The match in the final set became tense and both teams fought for power to power, however Peru took advantage of partial Colombia and won the game.

"We struggled to start, and we had many errors on serve in the first two, but we got better, we fought until the end and the team match the occasion long after the score and thanks to that we could win," said Vanessa Palacios, Peru's libero. 

The captain of Colombia Paola Ampudia was unhappy with the defeat.

"The game was tight at all times," she said. "In the end we gave up many points and Peru knew to take advantage. I'm very dissatisfied with the arbitration."
