Bangkok, Thailand, August 16, 2013 – Thailand’s head coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai said his team were rather excited and played nervously in the first set, against Puerto Rico, before they came back to win 3-1. He joined his team’s captain, along with the coach and captain from Puerto Rico, to discuss the match in a press conference:
Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai, head coach of Thailand: “It’s a good match. I praised my players to win this match. I think many players in my team were rather excited in their first match in front of a large number of their fans. In the first set, my players made too many mistakes, especially on combination and the ball pass. Fortunately, they overcame their nervousness and came up with an improved form to win the remaining three sets. Puerto Rico are also strong. They played very well in the first and third sets. We will try our best in our next match against Germany.”

Wilavan Apinyapong, team captain of Thailand: “Everybody in my team tried hard to play her best. I think everyone tried too much to show their best form just to satisfy a large crowd of home spectators here. They then became nervous and played with mistakes. It’s not easy for us to beat Germany in our next match. After this, we have to watch them play and study their tactics in order that we will learn their game and plan for our match on Saturday.
Rafael Olazagasti, head coach of Puerto Rico: “We won the first set. In the following three sets, we could not keep up with Thailand’s great serves. They played very fast and made us attack them at the corner and they blocked us well there. That’s the difference between us. We have already lost to Thailand twice early this year in the China International Tournament, but this time, we had two new players in our team.”
Yarimar Rosa, team captain of Puerto Rico: “Thailand played very well with fast attacks. We could not keep up with their tactics. We next take on Russia. They are tall, but slow. I hope we can improve our game.”
